REVIEW: Allegro Coffee

Can I just tell you how much I love coffee? Look, I know you’re not supposed to drink it. I’ve read plenty of research about how it’s bad for your adrenals, but they just don’t scare me. I LOVE COFFEE. For me, it’s not a question of To Drink Or Not To Drink, it’s more about how much to drink.

I take my caffeine seriously. I’ve been known to travel with my coffee bean grinder, because I just can’t be without my usual bean freshness! I’ve got an Italian-style stovetop espresso maker, courtesy of my mother-in-law. I also have a French press. Under normal circumstances, I would choose glass over any type of plastic material, but when I stopped to think about what a klutz I am, I decided to buy the polycarbonate version from Bodum. What can I say? When I see “unbreakable” on a box, it’s my civic duty to test this claim. I’m the ultimate test of breakability for any kitchen item, and so far, this thing WILL NOT break.

When I’m at Whole Foods, I usually get Allegro coffee. It’s the Whole Foods private label for the coffee section, and it’s really good. My personal favorite is the Guatemala Antigua, which I can sometimes find in the bulk bins, but usually I have to buy it in the pre-bagged whole bean section. It’s not so darkly roasted like a lot of burnt beans I’ve purchased before (ahem: Starbucks) and the rich flavor is nicely balanced, so it’s also bright. I have no idea how to talk about coffee flavor, so if I used the wrong terms, forgive me!
