REVIEW: Burt’s Bees Tomato Toner

So, summer is nearing its end, fall is approaching… But what about the tomatoes? I love tomatoes, they’re one of my favorite things. I love the way they smell, and how they taste when eaten right off the vine. Tomatoes are incredibly versatile, lending themselves to a multitude of dishes and sauces. So you’ll have to excuse me if, as the summer is winding down, I mourn a little for the end of the year’s tomato season.

Here’s a way to make the most of tomatoes year-round: Burt’s Bees Garden Tomato Toner. The smell is divine, they’ve captured the essence of “fresh-plucked tomato right off the vine” in a bottle.

The toner contains essence of cucumber, tomato, parsley, and green tea. It also has extract of lemon, which provides the toner with a natural source of alpha-hydroxy acids. It does have corn-derived alcohol, so if you’re prone to dry skin, be sure to moisturize well. I apply with a cotton ball or pad, and it’s so refreshing and clean.

This is one of the very few products that Ted will use on his face. I’ve failed at trying to get him to adopt any kind of skin-care regime, even just cleansing in the shower. However, as soon as I busted out this toner, he’s been addicted to it. It’s funny to see his handwriting on our grocery list, asking for “cotton puffs”.

If a product can ellicit this response from someone who’s usually vehemently anti-skin care, it’s an obvious addition to our skin care regimes for the rest of us.

*UPDATE: Since writing this post, I’ve become a little more savvy about ingredients. I still love the smell of this toner, but none of the ingredients are organic. Knowing that your body can absorb a certain amount of what you put on your skin, I’m a little less impressed by this product’s list of botanicals. As always, decide for yourself what you feel comfortable with.
