Last night Ted and I attended the Organic Harvest Dinner put on annually by the Organic Research Farming Foundation. OFRF is a national public interest organization whose stated purpose is to “foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming practices”. Started in 1990 by organic farmers, the non-profit fulfills this purpose by giving grants to farmers to provide them with the means as well as the scientific information to further their organic farming methods. OFRF also works to educate those who make public policy about organic farming, and to increase our government’s support and understanding of organic agriculture.
So, basically, they’re out there kickin’ ass for what we believe in.
This is a great reason to look into giving to OFRF, if you’re looking for a charity to lend support to. Another reason? Tax write-off. You were thinking it too, weren’t you? We’d all like to pretend we don’t think about this more practical aspect of giving, but we do. So give to a great cause, write it off your taxes, and everybody wins. And there you have it.
