Who Wants to Catch Flies, Anyway?

Lately I’ve been using white vinegar for cleaning my house. It’s cheap, eco-friendly, and effective. Seriously effective. I’m beginning to think there’s something weird about it, because I haven’t found a single use yet that my little spray bottle of white vinegar can’t handle. Kitchen grease cleaner? Check. Air deodorizer? Check. Floor cleaner, rust remover, copper polisher? Check, check, and check.

I was telling my sister-in-law about this last week, mostly because I felt like I had a secret I had to share with somebody, and why not my clean-floors-obsessed sis-in-law? But when she heard I was using vinegar, she said, “But doesn’t your house smell like vinegar?” Well, actually, yes. It does evaporate, but I suppose if you hated the smell of vinegar, using it would bother you. But when I smell the pungent scent of white vinegar, I always think of dyeing Easter eggs as a kid, and how could that be bad?

There are many other uses for white vinegar besides cleaning, you can read about them at The Vinegar Institute (yes, really). Even Patricia Bragg gets in on the action, though she’s careful to say that the company doesn’t endorse the use of distilled white vinegar for “human use”, which I assume means consumption.

Oh, and also? This is completely unrelated, but if you like music at all, you MUST check out Beck’s new album, The Information. It simply kicks ass. Here’s a handy link to the album in iTunes. Love it!

(I have a secret crush on Beck, which is now not so secret. Don’t worry—Ted already knows, and I’m allowed. Granted, the whole Scientology thing is a little weird, but so is his music. There you go.)
