In our household, shampoo is a hotly debated question. Which one do we use? Ted has thin blond hair, while mine is extremely thick and brown. And wavy. And kind of like a Bernese Mountain Dog’s.
We’ve remedied the problem by each keeping our own shampoo in the shower. That way, I can use a girlier one, while Ted can use shampoo that smells like the Marlboro Man might, if he was kind of guy that would spend $10 on a bottle of organic shampoo.
But sometimes this system fails. Sometimes, Ted uses MY shampoo. I know this because every now and then, I’ll catch a whiff of his hair, and it smells like a piña colada. And while having hair that smells like a piña colada doesn’t sound very manly, I’m pretty sure that almost all men do this. It’s not because men enjoy smelling pretty. No, I believe it’s because most women’s bath products are generally just better.
Recently, however, Ted brought a shampoo home that blew all the other organic men’s shampoos out of the water. (Ha, no pun intended. OR WAS THERE?) This shampoo was Aubrey Organic’s Men’s Stock shampoo. The label says “Ginseng Biotin”, but this belies the fact that it actually smells like a candy cane tastes. But putting “Candy Cane” on the bottle isn’t exactly the manliest thing to do. “Ginseng Biotin” sounds strong, and somewhat technical, like maybe a robot made it.
Now, I’ve used Aubrey’s Glycogen Protein shampoo before, and its scent was decidedly NOT girly. In fact, I recall it smelled sort of like if you made shampoo with twigs and dead leaves in it. Yup, definitely not girly. And while the Men’s Stock isn’t girly either, smelling minty-fresh is a good thing for both sexes.
When I use this shampoo, it doesn’t lather as much as we’re used to. But it certainly cleans my hair, and leaves it nice and soft. The not-lathering thing may be a problem for those consumers who don’t feel clean unless they get a head full of suds, though you might want to ask yourself if the chemicals that create the suds are really worth it.
The best thing about using Aubrey’s shampoo is the quality of the company and its products. Established in 1967, Aubrey Organics has always believed in full ingredient disclosure. Their factory has been certified organic, and they’re trying to get to the point where every single ingredient they use is certified. Their products are free of parabens, sodium laurel and laureth sulfates, petrolatum, and propylene glycol. In fact, the Men’s Stock shampoo’s chemical rating on Skin Deep is exceptionally low, which is a good thing.
Basically, whether you’re a man or a woman, or a whatever, Aubrey’s men’s shampoo should be in your shower. He’s been thinking a lot about which products are best for the sustainable-minded male who travels, and he wants to share his favorites with you.
