Last night, with our Thanksgiving dinner digesting happily in our stomachs, my brother-in-law, Chris, and I went to see a movie. On the way to the theater, we drove through a few neighborhoods. Chris noted that, for each house we passed, at least one turkey had to die. Sounds grim, but on the average, it’s probably true. So where did all those turkeys come from?
It’s unlikely that the majority of us have the time to drive out the nearest turkey farm and scope out the turkey situation. So I decided to write about Mary’s Turkeys today, a turkey farm in Fresno, California. I could list all the things they’re doing at the farm, but instead I’m showing you a video that will do the talking for me.
Give it a look, and maybe when next year rolls around and it comes time to reserve a bird, you’ll remember this video. No matter where you get your turkey from, make sure you know as much about the farm as your schedule allows. How much room do the birds have? What type of birds are they, traditional, heritage, or heirloom? And, most importantly, are they super-delicious?
Because, after all, yummy turkeys make yummy leftovers, and that’s exactly what Leftover Day is all about.
