I’ve long been a fan of Green & Black’s chocolate bars, but it wasn’t until recently that I tried their baking cocoa. I’ve used it for baking cakes and cookies, and Ted likes it in his hot chocolates. I’ve tried lots of different cocoa powders on the organic market, and in terms of taste this one FAR exceeds the rest.
Here’s a recipe for a smoothie I made a few days ago using Green & Black’s cocoa:
INGREDIENTS
-One large or two small bananas
-10 oz. bag of frozen raspberries
-about 1/8 cup of cocoa powder
-10 to 14 oz. of your milk of choice (I use coconut milk)
-1/4 teaspoon of good vanilla
-2 to 3 Tablespoons of local bee pollen
-raw agave nectar, to taste (I use about 1/4 cup or so, depending on sweetness of bananas)
Combine all ingredients in a blender, and process until well blended. Serves 2 or 3 people. Optional: if you want some protein in this shake, you can add protein powder or perhaps a raw fertile egg or two. Ted likes to add hemp protein powder from Manitoba Harvest. It doesn’t flavor the smoothie at all, and it adds a significant source of protein.

This stuff is amazing for hot chocolate as well. Had some this morning. Also, if you like ice cream, we just discovered Green and Blacks chocolate ice cream. Seriously, this stuff is like manna from heaven. Unbelievable.

That sounds de-lish! I love the addition of local bee pollen, and I want to try that hemp powder.

Funny, I checked my RSS feed for your blog and saw that the latest post was about cocoa and I wondered if it was going to be Green & Black, which I bought last night for a gluten-free chocolate cake (which was to die for!) This cocoa really IS great. And I’ll to try your smoothie recipe…

How much cocoa powder ingredient do you add to the recipe?

Whoops, I forgot to add that to the list of ingredients… I’ve updated the post to include the cocoa. Thanks for noticing!
