Like many guys, following a strict facial care regimen isn’t very high on my priority list. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t like I want to walk around with bad skin, but I have so many other things I would rather spend my time on - like watching our lawn grow, or even chatting with random people in airport terminals about their current Soduku game. Seriously, the thought of getting facials or walking through a cosmetics department in Macy’s is about as appealing as looking at someone else’s family vacation pictures.
However, as I get older, I am realizing that my once baby-buttock like skin is also aging with me. This is especially true when I travel. While I am very conscience of what I put in and on my body, it can be tough to find new products that would meet my insanely high standards. I guess this is why I am so excited about the following products.
I love Aubrey Men’s Stock North Woods Shaving Cream. Using a coconut oil base and a combination of herbs, this shaving cream is the best I have ever used. It’s light and effective, and has a very pleasing scent that isn’t offensive. When I first discovered it in Whole Foods, I was equally excited to try Aubrey’s After Shave Balm because it was the cleanest after shave I had ever seen. Unfortunately, said after shave leaves you smelling like a set of hippy camping clothes that were soaked in patchouli and smoked by a campfire for several weeks. The first time I used it, I offended myself for the rest of the afternoon.
After this crucial mistake, I learned to use Pangea Organics Chilean Red Clover lotion for my after shave. I can rub this lotion all over, and it leaves me feeling clean and grease free. While Pangea offends my cheap genes, a little really does go a long way. Unless your wife, girlfriend, etc is stealing it, the bottle will last for quite a while. Plus, it is legit in the ingredient arena, which makes spending $17 on a bottle worth it. Whole Foods used to sell a small tester bottle which was better for traveling, but it was dropped due to lagging sales - damn capitalism - so I would recommend buying your own small bottle at a drug store and filling it before trips. Taking the big one with you can prove fatal as your bag moves through the skilled hands of the people who load the luggage onto the airplane.
Finally, I recommend finishing with Aubrey’s Men’s Stock Pine Deodorant. This clean and fresh smelling elixir will channel your inner lumberjack, and is one of the few natural deodorants that does more than increase the smell of B.O. - Enjoy!

I’m glad you’re writing for The Scoop, Ted! Do you have sensitive skin, by any chance? Johnny does along with rosacea so I’m always trying to find kind products for his handsome face, and trying to replace his current Aveeno shave gel…

I’m getting Steven to try some of this stuff, pronto!

Ted-
Thanks for the post. I am constantly trying to find a natural shaving cream that works. Lately I have been using one from Kiss My Face that I like. Just a dab lathers up nicely and isn’t as thick as the Avalon I had been using. I’ll be giving the Aubrey’s a try. Do they have a travel size? I have donated too much natural personal care to the TSA!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the feedback. Sorry it took me a while to get back with you.
Jenni - I don’t think I do have sensitive skin because I can pretty much use anything - even Bronner’s soap - which I don’t recommend. Razor blades are another story however. Kerry has to use Aveno for the same reason. One thing Johnny could try is putting some straight - pure - aloe vera on right after shaving. Don’t get the cheap stuff because it is loaded with checmicals. This works for a lot of people.
Duane - thanks for your comments. As a frequenter of the commercial travel program myself, I can totally sympathize. I think the TSA is in a secret deal with plastic bag manufacturer’s to boost sales. They don’t make a travel size that I know of, but you can find them at a local drug store for around $1 or so. This is how I do it. The Kiss My Face is nice, but their ingredients are not always the best, sadly. I love the way their stuff smells.

Ted, that is a great idea. I will pass it on to Johnny, and I think we have some pure aloe vera. Thanks!
