As I previously confessed, getting clean can be a spiritual experience for me. So it is only logical that I tried Indigo Wild’s frankincense & myrrh Zum Wash for my hands and body. And since cleanliness is next to Godliness, I keep a bottle by the bathroom sink. This soap smells heavenly. I’ll try to stop with the religious lingo but really, it smells magnificent: woodsy, warm, soothing, and spicy. In addition to the incense-aroma, Zum Wash leaves my hands soft due to saponified oils of certified organic coconut, certified organic olive, castor, certified organic jojoba, and silk proteins.
Since I was clueless as to what saponified meant, I e-mailed Indigo Wild to inquire. While I was as it, I asked which essential oils are in Zum Wash and are they organic? And what is the fragrance oil? Why do you need a fragrance oil if the soap already contains essential oils, presumably frankincense and myrrh? Annie quicky e-mailed a reply:
Saponification is the
reaction of an alkali with fat or oil to form soap. … Our essential oils and fragrance oils are
not organic. Our frankincense and myrrh scent is the only scent that we use a
touch of fragrance oil in. All of our other scents are pure essential oils. So
if you are trying to stay away from fragrance oils we’ve got lots of other
products to choose.
She also stated that the exact essential oil blend is proprietary which is a fairly typical response from natural product companies. Such a reply seems unnecessary to me, though, since even if she divulged every single essential oil in Zum Wash, there is no way I could whip up such a great product in my kitchen. But I do like that the soap smells divine and contains 95% organic oils for skin hydration. I also like that there is a litany of words that are off-limits to Indigo Wild - dirty words indeed!
Having already established that Zum Wash keeps my hands clean, I snatched the bottle into the shower today. It doubled superbly as a shower gel, worked up a good lather, and made for yet another religious bathe. Hours later I can still smell the soft fragrance on my skin. Whether or not you can rest easy with a fragrance oil, Indigo Wild’s products work great (I’ve tried a few others) and Annie is right, they do have several other scents from which to choose.
