Terra Nostra Has Chocolate For Your Pocket

in REVIEWS: Food & Beverages

You might have noticed we’ve reviewed a lot of chocolate. One company I haven’t yet mentioned is Terra Nostra Organic Chocolate. And until today, I hadn’t tasted any of their products. But this afternoon a handful of samples fell into my hand like a gift from heaven, so I figured I’d give them a review. Besides, it’s a great excuse for eating chocolate bars before dinner.

Terra Nostra has several products, most of which I haven’t tried yet. I’m particularly interested in their Ricemilk Choco Bars™, since I’ll always try any vegan product that doesn’t contain soy at least once. Also, I love rice milk. But for today’s review, I’m going to profile the company’s Pocket Chocolate Bars, and tell you what I thought of them.

Terra Nostra Pocket Chocolates

I like the concept of “pocket chocolate,” even though in practice this would probably result in a seriously melted chocolate bar. What I like about the line is that the size of the bars is 1.5 ounces, in comparison to their regular bars at 3.5 ounces. This makes it more difficult to overeat, assuming that you only buy one bar. The ingredients in the products get mixed reviews from me: two of the bars get praise for being simple and clean, and the other two contain soy lecithin and, worse, corn syrup. While the soy lecithin and corn syrup are both organic, I try to avoid these two ingredients in my diet. Before you decide, keep in mind that the corn syrup is in the caramel of these two products, not in the chocolate itself.

There are four Pocket Chocolate Bars, and here’s a breakdown of my review by product. The company claims that the bars “result in flavor experiences that truly bring magic to your palate.” Did I agree with them? Read on to find out.

SATIN MILK™ WITH CREAMY CARAMEL FILLING
This milk chocolate bar contains caramel inside its squares, and it’s pretty good. The bar is a bit salty, and it’s really sweet. I prefer my chocolate a little more on the bitter side, but if you like yours achingly sweet, then this is for you.

ROBUST DARK™ WITH CREAMY CARAMEL FILLING
This bar was arguably my favorite in taste. While it was also a little salty, the bite of the dark chocolate balanced the sweet caramel filling very well.

INTENSE DARK™ WITH GOJI BERRIES & PINK HIMALAYAN MINERAL SALT
This product was… disgusting. Seriously, why mess around with mineral salt in chocolate, for crap’s sake? And as far as goji berries go, I’m fairly sick of hearing about them. This product was my least favorite. Still, containing only three ingredients, it’s one of the cleanest in the line-up.

ROBUST DARK™ POMEGRANATE TRUFFLE BAR
This bar was my second favorite. It has a fruity flavor, sort of like cherry chocolate, but with more bite, though not quite as much as cranberries in chocolate. The only ingredients in this product are chocolate and pomegranate juice concentrate, which gets a big *yay* from me. This bar definitely brings the magic.

There you have it. Four pocket-sized bars, four very different reviews. Of course, the reviews are only my opinion according to my tastes, so I strongly encourage you to try these chocolate bars out for yourselves. Doesn’t that sound like a fun homework assignment? If only math homework were so delicious.
