You might have noticed that down at the bottom of the content in my left sidebar are a few Google Ads. I debated for a long time whether or not I should include these ads on my site. I didn’t want to cheapen this site for any of my readers, which was the main focus of my concern.
But at the end of the day, I figured you’d understand. After all, ever since I started The Sustainable Scoop in July of 2006, I’ve been shelling out a modest yet consistent cash sum to keep the site up and running, nevermind the somewhat absurd amount of work hours I’ve put into making The Scoop as user-friendly and relevant as possible. I could have made a lot of money doing design work with those hours, but that’s not what I’m about. I have put my heart and soul into this site because I believe in what I’m doing, and my hope is that it continues to be enjoyed by my readers. So can you fault a girl for trying to find ways to support her blogging habit?
I chose Google’s ad program because the content is purely third party-generated. There’s no chance that any ads placed on my site will influence my reviews since I’m not interacting with any of the advertisers. I actually kind of like the new ads; it’s fun to see what the program thinks is relevant to my readers (as I write this, the ads are all about chocolate. I guess I do write about chocolate a lot).
If you have any questions about the new ads, please send me an email.
