*Note: Today’s post was written by Chris Robb, my brother-in-law and fellow Santa Rosa resident. Besides Ted, I count Chris as my best friend. He brings new perspectives to our conversations about organics and sustainability, and I’m continually inspired by his passion for the environment. Chris is new to this whole blogging thing, and I think he’s done a good job. I hope he will post here in the future as well. Welcome to The Scoop, Chris!

P.S. I took this photo of Chris this morning at our favorite coffee shop. The shirt in question is the short sleeved button-up with white buttons. Enjoy the post!

Choice? What is choice? Everything is our choice, but recently Target has introduced a new organic clothing line called Organics by Choice. I thought this was very interesting because organic clothing seems so far away from what you would find at Target. The name itself reflects a very encouraging possibility as well. Now people have the choice of getting organic clothing at Target. The selection right now is limited, but there are definitely a few cool items to choose from.

This brings me to the other reason the name stood out to me, and it is something I strongly believe almost more than anything else right now. The more we as consumers make that choice for organics at stores like Target, the more the selection will grow and the more demand there will be for organics. The old phrase “vote with your dollars” has never rung so true as to the green movement, but when I look at the election and politics in general, voting for green with my dollars is just as (if not more) important to me than voting for artificial politicians. At least our politicians and 97% of the food we eat have something in common.

Anyway, there are new choices like this popping up all over the place because companies follow trends, and sustainable is in. Banana Republic is now talking about introducing a sustainable line. Banana Republic is a GAP, inc. company which means that if it does well at Banana, it will most definitely be tried at Gap, and Old Navy. To me, the thought of everyone having exposure to organics, sustainability and fair trade principles is very exciting, because people are generally excited about the clothes that they buy, and it has a tremendous possibility for education. I am not saying go out and buy 100 organic shirts at target to support the movement, because in itself, that goes against the movement, but when you have the option, make the right choice because it does make a difference.

I love that shirt. What’s the manly word for “cute?”

Nice job on the post. Now if they would just carry organic socks.

Great article, learn something new every day. So what are the odds the Target in Stockton is stocking the organic shirts? I will be making a stop there soon though to check
